Nice image Steve. I like the colors in the meadow and the layer of fog. I'd like to see a little larger version for display here.

Welcome aboard NSN! I met you at Hoot Hollow in July 02 I remember.

I do like the environmental aspects of this shot. It's posted a bit small to see much detail and is a bit too contrasty.

I'm new to posting, even with following the guidelines, but I am working on it . Heather has been helping me so I'm hopeful the next posts will be better. Thanks for the nice comments. EJ - what could I do to improve the contrast? Steve

Lots of potential in your photo with some work on the computer. Taking film to digital certainly requires some work. The rules on NSN require permission to download a photo so you might add a note like: Downloads allowed provided you tell me what manipulations you performed. Please delete the file after you've reposted it.

Most people here use some version of Photoshop. What are you using?

Welcome to NSN!

Like the composition and the fog. On the contrast, could be in the scan or could be in the post-processing. I'm guessing it's in the scan and I can't help you there; generally the issue is insufficient contrast rather than too much and Image>adjust>contrast and then adjusting the slider slightly will generally get you much closer. (That's assuming you're using photoshop.)

Nice situation. Another contributor to contrast might be the use of VS100. I missed it in Outdoor Photographer, but in Inner Game Galen Rowell praises VS for overcast, low contrast scenes, but says it can be garish in sunlight and will never be his all-round film. With the sidelight and shadows here, and a dark subject on a bright field, possibly Provia F would be better. I've never shot a single roll of VS, however, so I have no personal experience with it.

Nice environmental shot. I think the contrast problem is likely a combination of the use of VS and the post processing (scanning/PS ) as well. I have found VS to be way too contrasty for use in sunny situations but I think with good post processing work it could be tones down, unfortunately, I am not known for good post processing work. Posting larger as allowed with also help retain more detail in your shot. Welcome to NSN and thanks for posting in Wildlife. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Nicely composed image. The steam over the trees really says Yellowstone to me. I have shot lots of VS and find it very contrasty in this type of lighting.
