This is a "path" through the woods that I found while exploring the Upper Ouachita NWR last weekend. I have another version with the colors more saturated and the contrast boosted but prefer this softer one.

Canon 10D, 28-105.

All comments, suggestions appreciated.

Nice shot Jenny. I like the hanging mosses on the trees.

very pleasing sense of place and of the randomness of nature (although nature was nice enough to provide an archway). the softness of contrast and color reflect the feel of one of those transitional season days, kind of betwix and between the glory of one season and the next that are not always "glorious" in light and drama.

from what i have seen of the bayou in your images , it seems to be a diverse and intresting place. is there anywhere i can see a series of your bayou images?

My photographs aim at being true, not at being beautiful because, what is true is most often beautiful.

Thanks for the comments.

Mark, no, unfortunately I don't have a website. It's on my to-do list but first I have to find the time to learn HOW to set one up.

Jenny, this has a very beckoning quality to it. I really like the moss hanging at the top of the frame in the foreground, gives me a tickly feeling. I'm curious...did you venture down the path? Did it lead to other good photo ops?

Jenny, this path is really inviting and makes me want to go exploring! I like the warm, muted tones, that make it so peaceful.

Mary ... no I didn't venture down the path. I am completely ashamed to admit this but ... I am afraid of snakes. That tall grass was like a prison fence to me. This was near water and I didn't want to happen upon some cottonmouth that was just waiting there to get me.

Hi Jenny, :D :D Thanks for the response. Probably very prudent judgment if you're afraid of snakes. I gotta ask this: How can you live in the bayous of Louisana and avoid them all the time? This is probably bourne of my ignorance, but it seems to me there are SO MANY things to be afraid of in your neck of the woods. What you show in your photos is always very intruguing to me and beautiful, but it is so different from most places I have kicked around in, EXCEPT for the ONE cypress tupleo swamp that I know of in southern Illinois. We were hiking there a few weeks ago and there were huge warning signs about the cottonmouths, timber rattlers and another venomous beauty that I can't recall. Didn't see a single one of course but you can be darn sure I had my eyes open...WIDE!! :D

This is a really nice shot. It does invite the view to go for a walk (if you don't know about the snakes, anyway).

I don't know if I could live happily in such a place. I gotta say that one advantage of living where I do is that I don't need to worry about poisonous snakes or creepy-crawlies.

Oh, sure, if you go down to the far south-east region of the province, you can find rattlers, black widows, and scorpions, but they're isolated to that region. In the rest of the province, you can be reasonablyy sure that any snake or bug won't actually be venomous. Heck, we don't even have the otherwise ubiquitous Norway Rat in Alberta!

Now if you're scared of bears, wolves, coyotes, and cougars, that's a different story! :P But really there's no need to be scared of those--more injuries to people are caused by elk than all those others combined in Alberta.
