Image was captured at the Mulberrry Bush at Fort Desoto on April 21, 2005, during the spring migration. Managed to get a few images as this one scampered up down the palm tree trunks searching for food.

Nikon D2X, 500mm Lens and 1.7X, 1/250 @ f8.5, ISO 200, FF

Thanks for looking and for taking the time to add comments.

Hugh

Don't think I've ever seen one in the open as much as this one. Perhaps just a bit more USM. Great shot!

Good going, Hugh! Nice to see one with blue sky behind. As Alan suggests, a bit of USM. These guys are so fast.

Excellent, Hugh. He really stands out against that background. To my eye, detail is fine.

Hugh,

Very nice shot of a bird that I've never seen stand still. Very well done.

Hugh, I don't see the softness mentioned by others. Its nice to see a shot of this species clinging to a trunk. Nice work.

Very nice composition and detail. I like the pose as well; this can be a tough bird to capture. The whites on the head and throat are a bit hot; I assume you shot in RAW. Maybe try and go back and hold these highlights with some selective burning/non-linear curves to make it perfect.
