Have no idea about the ID of the bird, just need to say that the color of the background is totally unique. Is it the floor of a boat? A beautiful shot, the feathers raising at the back add to it. :D :D :D

It's either a Marsh or Reed Warbler. The long primary projection rules out Paddyfield & Blythes Reed Warbler.
The best feature to distiguish Marsh from Reed is the rump which unfortunately is hidden here. If it's a warm reddish brown it's a reed warbler, if it s only slightly browner than the back it's a marsh warbler.

With a gun to my head I would probably go Marsh on what I'm seeing here but I am not 100% certain to be honest.

Ligia, Yes, it´s the ships deck

Colin, what would you need to ID it better ? I have various shots, also of the bird in a researchers hand - with an unfolded wing - plenty of shots of varying angles...

cheers

G

PS.. Rump? you mean its Bu*t ? :?

I'm no expert on LBJ's, but this certainly looks like a Marsh Warbler to me.

Pale flesh-coloured legs and pale tips to tertials according to my books!

With the additional shots I'm much more confident of Marsh Warbler. The rump would be warmer on Reed Warbler.

I'm not a fan of trying to work do id on leg colour, but yellowish pink for Marsh vs greyish brown for Reed (they both look the same in the plate in my id book though)

That would appear to be a Marsh Warbler based on your other photos, but I would have to hit the reference books at home to be sure....

Are you on a boat out at sea? I would love to know more on this story, sounds like this guy is way off course.
