I do wish at times that we could post some images of ourselves and kids in nature.
To me, it is very important to get them involved whenever I can! :)
Image
This was taken at the Jones Gap trail in upstate South Carolina this past weekend.
This is my oldest son Turner (13), and he had a outright "blast" while hiking through the mountains with his dad!

For him, he discovered this past weekend:
-That those bright reddish orange salamanders are really cool!

-That those shoes you put over your other shoes so you can walk in the stream without soaking your feet are really cool!

-That peanut butter cheese crackers are really cool when you are starving!

-That the water is "really cool!"

-That it is awesome to watch a black bear watching us while he was standing on a ledge across the stream. That's really cool!

-That those "thousands" of mushrooms we saw were really cool!

-That the Canon G3 is really cool to play with!

-That his dads old sweatshirts are more cool to wear than the new ones for kids his age!

-That dad can get a little looser with his jokes when his mom is not around is really cool!

**But the best memory for Turner was:

-Watching his daddy step down on some wet leaves, and sliding down the mountain side about 20ft, then standing up to discover the most incredible "wedgy" he has ever had in his entire life!!!!! 8)

Now he knows what "priceless" really means!!! :)

Have not done much posting the past 2 weeks, so I am back at it later tonight.
Take care gang, and thanks for looking and listening!

I not only like the photo Michael, but I agree 100% with your philosophy of getting kids involved in the outdoors and I fully intend to do the same with my children. The only one I have at this time is 4 months old, so I still have a little time before I can fully expose her to the great outdoors.

A good picture and a better story. I don't have kids but I'm so glad to see people getting their kids exposed to the natural world. Gives me hope...

Sounds like you had a really cool trip. ;) I think this is terrific. While I don't have kids of my own, I am extremely close to my Aunt's two children. I love taking them with me on local photo excursions. They love it too and have even taken a few really cool photos. :)
