I am showing this buck as a comparison to the "Bonte-buck" that Peter showed yesterday or so. This is a very close relative of the Bonte-buck and we do have instances that these animals inter-breed.

The Bonte-buck that Peter showed us, is very rare and we have a responsibility to keep the two buck species apart.

This one was taken in Rietvleidam reserve where we have herds of Blesbuck of some 200 and more.

Thanks for the comparison. These are very interesting animals and I am learning a great deal about non-USA mammals. I am enjoying that.. Nice photo. I like the size in the frame, and nice turn to the camera with the important catch light. Thanks for posting..

Very nice shot, Geurt. Another animal I wasn't aware of and it's interesting to see this shot for comparison. I like the pose, sharpness, and composition in this shot, but I think the color balance looks too warm on my monitor.

Thanks for the comments.

Just as a parting shot, have a look at the white patch over the nose area of both the species of buck. With the Bontebok you'd notice that the white patch is continious from between the horns on to the nose patch area, whiles the Blesbok has a white patch between the horns and then a separate patch over the nose area. This is the best way to differentiate between the tow species.

I wanted to add that as well this morning, but you already did this Geurt.

Anything else we can compare? What about a Tsesebbe and a .... (forgot) or some birds like weavers?
