This is one of the macro shots where I am not able to identify neither the species nor family. I think it could be a robber fly. Any ideas?

EOS 10D + 100/2.8 macro, tripod

Nice photo- I like the angle and the lighting.

I'd say there's a good chance you're correct hat its a robber fly. One of the key charateristics is top of the head having a large hallowed out area between the eyes. They also have bearded faces, usually with a stout thorax, tapered abdomen, and long, strong legs. The adults are predacious and strong fliers. It a large and quite variable family. All of that's according to my trusty reference, "Study of Insects" by Borror, DeLong and Triplehorn. Its an old college text.... I'm a nonpracticing entomologist.

Very nice shot Fero! :)
Good comp and color in this shot and although a little more DOF would be nice, this still is wonderful as is!

Nice shot. The eye and closest part of thorax are in focus which makes this work. More DOF would be nice but from the angle shot at probably not much more to be had.

Fine shot, nice oblique angle. DOF os always sort in macro. If you got the camera in a lower position, the head details would pop more and you avoid the merge with the back leg.
