Hello NatureScapers...

This is cougar image from the recent Shoot the Light at Triple D in Montana. When the subjects were out, I tried to make images with as many different lenses as I could, trying to change up the perspective. In the beginning when energy levels are high, handholding with shorter lenses helped with keeping up. As energy levels dropped off a bit, tripod mounted lenses came into play.. On some subjects I was even able to play around with wide angle..but not with Andy  ..

We were advised that we should never turn our back on the big cats and if Andy gave us "that look" we were to raise from a kneeled position and prepare to move. None of us knew at the beginning what "that look" meant but it didnt take long to figure it out..

This was the last image I made of Andy that day, as he finally stopped to sit down in the grass for a break.

Thanks for looking and any comments or suggestions..

Great shot Dennis. I always love the tight portraits. It did Andyawhile to wind down. I really like the framing with the grass. I can see this as an enlargement on the wall...

A very nice portrait. I always have trouble deciding where to crop an animals body in something like this, but you did an excellent job here.

Dennis, this is an OUTSTANDING portrait. The level of intensity is astounding, and rest assured this is no easy task. Shooting approx. four hours each day left us bug-eyed, but with ear to ear smiles.

Yes, never turn your back on a big cat or weasle

This rocks!

Best,

Chas

The intimacy and the innocent look on this Mountain Lion's face is incredible - What an amazing photo especially knowing how powerful these animals can be.

It is hard to put into words about the overall wonderful quality you have with your images Dennis, and this to me, really has some punch to it! This one really pulls my eye in and the depth you have in my opinion is truly outstanding!
Even the overall lighting in just about all of your images are wonderful.
You must have the "right light god" following you around or something!! 8)

But again, this is perfect in my opinion!!!

Dennis, He looks quite calm, peaceful, and thoughtful to me. I assume this isn't "that look," or maybe I'm totally wrong. Very nice regardless!

An Olivero classic. I love cougars and this is one outstanding portrait. A more alert expression is sometimes desired for these big cats but I think this captures more of their true demeanor, a powerful and capable predator.
