Need an ID on this type of WoodPecker. I thought it was a ladder back but after looking at some refs I can't tell what it is. Thanx for looking.

I'm not great on identification, but I noted that you are from Va, but mentioned a ladderback, which would not normally be found in Va, where was this taken. (also time of year)

Looks like a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker to me. At any rate it is a fine image!

Brian,

I believe Andy is right. It is a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. I had them at my feeder here in Atlanta a few months ago. If it's ok, I can post a picture of the one I captured.

Another from my wish list for this spring but so far it's not happening. I too agree on the ID and that this is a beautiful image. I might consider a little less tree, but fine as is too.

I assume you shot this around your house, if so this is a Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker. Nice image.

The colors in this are intense! I like the greens and blues of the background. Nice one Brian.

Sure looks like a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker to me. I had one stay one winter and never could get a good shot of her.....always came out just at sunrise or sunset when there wasn't any real light. Really nice shot of this one.
