Red Deer (Cervus elaphus) – Lyme Park

Canon EOS10D, 600mm/f4, Gitzo 1548 + Wimberley Head.
Evaluative metering, f5.0, 1/400, iso 400.
RAW file processed in Capture One LE; levels and curves in Photoshop; sharpened using PK sharpening workflow; final application of usm as local contrast enhancement at 40:50:0.

Went out with Geoff Simpson to a site near his home in the north of England on Sunday. While Geoff and his group were working a some young stags I worked my way around another group in order to try to get some shots of the animals among the autumn remains of this Molinia – grass.

Very nice! Great composition and colors. I like the fact that virtually all the grass is in focus. Must have had to compress the dickens out of this one to get down to posting size!

Excellent, Phil. I really like all the texture in the grass, and the color of it makes the deer stand out nicely. Very well done!

Very good!!!

I like the uniform grass that doesn't bore because of the different directions it has fallen. The deer of course is excellent. Framing is also good.

Cheers

Hi Phil,
I love how you have managed to isolate this stag amidst the sea of grass. The composition and timing of your `click` are also first rate. My only wishes are for slightly warmer light, and a visible catchlight. Makes me want to head for Margam Park to try for something nearly as good! Good work, as usual!
