Just when I thought the butterfly season was winding down, I ran into this local/rare butterfly:
Image
Canon 10D, 300/4 + TC + ext, F16, fill flash

Not by chance- someone in the Mass Butterfly Club found a few in this spot, so I went over. Although there are several flights of these in a season, people only seem to see them in fall. It's nectaring on heath aster, one of a few things still flowering. What a beautiful butterfly!

Does the aster background work in this one?
Tom

Does the aster background work in this one you ask?
I'll say it does!!! 8)
The bold colors of the butterfly standout out while the softness increases as you go back, comp is nice, and detail is wonderful right where it is needed!
No nits here at all Tom!

Beautiful. IMO asters are a difficult BG at any time because the are so busy, but you have done a great job in with selective focus blurring out these to where they are not intrusive on the main subject in the imge.
