Many fish and other creatures in the ocean can vary their colors and patterns to better blend into the background. I shot this peacock flounder Bothus lunatus on my trip to St Vincent in July. These fish are regularly encountered and are masters at blending into their backgrounds. They even change their colors as they swim over changing backgrounds.
There is a "Catch 22" with camoflage photographs. If it is a really effective shot of a camoflaged subject, then the subject is unrecognizeable. I think this one is almost that effective. Mouth and eyes to lower right. Nikon D-100, Sigma 28-80 Macro Zoom lens, two YS-120 Sea and Sea strobes, 1/125 at ASA 200, manual exposure. slight crop top and bottom. |
