Red Fox (Vulpes fulva)

While inspecting a bald eagle nest on Mount Desert Island in Maine, I saw this little guy/gal trotting along the shore line during low tide. I waited patiently while remaining motionless until it moved in to a location where I could get a nice clean shot. Since I knew that I would most likely be able to only squeeze one shot I got ready and once the Fox came towards me from the shore I took this one and only shot before it scampered away the same way it came.

The overcast sky is reflected strongly on the water and it's producing a high key effect that I wish where not there. But I can hardly complain.

What do you think of the very bright water and the strong catchlights?

 Wow, what a gorgeous creature!
I could live without the bright background, but I'd take this shot any day.
Well done!!

Great shot. Foxes are difficult to capture head on using flash without getting "green" eye. You did very well. Congrats.

I initially thought the bright area was snow and not bright water, but it is a minor thing as the image of the fox is so strong. I really like the alert pose with the raised paw, but I think the eyes look unnatural and would be better to clone out part of the catchlight. Well done to cathc this when you were looking for smething else.

Ditto to Cheryl's comments. Soon as I saw that raised paw, I wondered if you had been able to get more than a shot or two. Very nicely captured even with the "snow" in the background.

Very, very nice. I love the eye contact and the half raised leg. I also think the bright background and strong catchlights work fine here. IMO This is an absolutely beautiful shot of a gorgeous animal.

I was enjoying the inquisitive expression, raised paw, and bright red coat so much that I didn't even notice the bright background until reading the description.

This is very well done. The white BG works well with the intensely red fox. I like everything about it.
