Someone should have told this egret that you cannot shoot white birds in full mid-day sunlight and retain feather detail

1D, 600IS
exposure- 1/2500 @ f/5.6, ISO 200

Best all.

The colors are so vibrant with those lime-green lores and the blue sky. Excellent.

You certainly did a great job of retaining the feather detail and the definition in the bird, Chas. Nothing less would be expected.

Ooooh. Sweet portrait Chas. The breeding color and vibrant sky is fantastic. Too bad the bill tip is soft. :)

Chas, this reminds me of our session at Alligator Farm in June, 2002. This appears to be sunny-f16 minus 2/3. I would have preferred f8 or f11 to get a sharp bill -- I love to turn on my teacher.

Sandy, XXOO

LOL- the tip is sharp in print, I might have clipped it when knocking down the blue sky noise for web. You guys crack me up. What do have your monitor res at? Looks sharp from here.

Yes, this is exactly what we covered in ST Aug.
Now if your memory was only as good with the keys ... :P

BTW-, any below would work

Sunny f/16 minus 2/3 EV

Incident minus 2/3 EV

Spot off brightest highlight plus 2 EV

Evaluative off blue sky (no comp necessary), it under exposes the sky 1 EV.

Matrix off blue sky (minus 1 EV) as the Nikon if I remember correctly renders it a midtone, as it should.

Best all,

Chas

Hey Chas, a great reason to skip the big lunches and stay out in the feild, as I generally do. Great shot. Thanks for your Exposure lesson - something more photographers should know.
