Would like to share this American Coot with you. I find the white bill is not the easiest to expose correctly.

1/160 sec @f/9 ISO 400. Lens 600mmm.

Your critique and comments are, as always, appreciated.
Thanks for looking.
Dieter

Its certainly not easy to get detail in the dark plumage and not blow out the whites of the bill. Nice exposure control. I might try to move him back in the frame a tad, but not a big deal.

Very nice detail in the body... but sorry to say, the detail in the bill is blown out. As you said these, these are difficult birds to expose, especially in strong lighting conditions. I think I would go for less exposure to get the whites and then pick up detail in the feathers, as best you can, with the shadow and highlight tool. Thanks for posting Dieter, evaluating situations like this helps us all learn. :)

I think you did very well with the exposure. The whites at the base of the bill look a bit over, and you still ahve some room with the dark body. If you shot this digitally, you might have some ability to back off.
4 down, 2 to go.

Decent job on the exposure Dieter, I would have underexposed a bit more thouh. I like the gray water. The head seems a little too "uncontrasty". Nice shot.

A tough subject to getting the exposure right ...
You didn't do too badly, Dieter!
