Beautiful shot, Bart. I love the setting.

As for using recordings I also agree with Jim. Caution and limited use are the best practices.
One more thing to consider is that playing sounds of smaller owls may also attract bigger ones looking to pick off the smaller owl that may have been attracted. Not good for the smaller owl.

Beautiful image!! The alert look on top of that snowy perch is just great. Recordings used sparingly and not during nesting is alright with me.

Superb shot, Bart! Great sense of scale :)
Regarding recordings: probably they will not do much harm when used wisely, by knowledgeable and ethical person. However, I think that in general it is better if recordings are used only when absolutely necessary, like for scientific research purpose (I am not considering ones desire of taking picture of endangered species as "absolute necessity" :wink: )
