Hey folks,

I just got my new computer (iMac, G5 20" screen with a gig of ram on the way!!!), and am fiddling with getting used to the monitor. The LCD is SO different to the old CRT on my previous computer .. I have no idea where to start. Any comments on how this looks on your end would be much appreciated.

Had the old 'convert to sRGB' problems again .. they didn't occur on my setup .. I'm not sure why ... so this post may not right here.

I applied some USM, but WAY less than I used to ... my old settings were 350, .2, twice .. this time, I think it was 250, .2 and 5, then 100, .2 and 5 .. something like that ..

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Carl

The colors look right... the nose is sharp, but the face seems a little soft - but that would just be a nit! It would help to see the techs on the image....

With that said, great portrait - in your face. I like them in the water!

I agree with Bob's assessment. This is a neat head-on view, it shows off all the different colors in his fur, and that blue water is a sweet background.

If I get a new computer will it spit out images like this as well :) Nice in your face shot. He looks less than amused. Looks like you had tough sidelight to deal with. The face looks sharp here, but I think it could use a bit more overall sharpening. Good one!

Colors look good here. I like the in your face comp and the blue water is great. Agree on another jolt of USM. EJ went through this a year ago and I have some trouble with it also. On ultrasharp monitors, you have the tendency to stop sharpening and then everyone says, sharpen a little more... if that makes any sense..
Thanks for posting..I enjoy your AK images a great deal

Overall this looks quite dark on my monitor Carl, so much that I can hardly make out the shadow side of the face/eye at all. It also looks soft overall. I know how hard it is to switch to a new computer just when you've got used to the familiar one, and lots of experimenting will be needed to get things to your own satisfaction and high standards! 8)

The shot itself, and the head on close up in the water is great!! 8) 8) 8) :)

Definitely got his attention. Love the "it's my fishing grounds" look. Would definitely be more aggressive on the sharpening. (Perhaps 100/.2 or .3/3, perhaps even twice.) Also looks dark in the shadows. The right eye is tough to discern, for example. Shadow/highlights will probably take care of that quickly. (As a guess, maybe 5/50/20 on the shadows and leave the highlights alone.) Would love to see a repost!

I really like the aggressive look and the deep blue water for background. The right side of the face (I guess it would be the bear's left side) is a bit dark. Very cool shot.

Great pose. the colors look good but left side of bear could definitely use work to present more detail. that and a bit more USM overall and it will make it even better.

Great head on shot! I'm not sure on the color as they both look realistic. I guess it is a matter of taste or which depicts what you remember. I think the USM is a little over the top on the repost. A blend of the two images would seem perfect to me.

Hey Carl- Great shot- some real attitude in that expression! That blue water sure looks good compared to the glacial silt waters so common in AK shots.

I'm on a road trip using an uncalibrated monitor, but you over did the USM in the second post.

Jez you've got a big thumb! It must have grown even more after I left...

Better shadow detail in the repost-just back off some on the USM and I think you will have it.

I agree that the USM is a bit over done on the repost, the color on the repost looks better on my CRT.

Great shot Carl. Thanks for sharing.
