Sony a7RV SD card capacity

Having owned and used an a7RIV since Dec. 2019 I just bought an a7RV. As soon as I formatted an SD card I noticed that the capacity (uncompressed RAW) was substantially below the RIV. A 128GB ProGrade V90 card in the RIV holds 1038 images and the same card formatted in the RV only holds 922 images.

The files from the RV are a bit larger, but not enough to explain the reduced capacity. Does anyone know/understand how the RV is using the card that reduces the image capacity?

Make sure that you are using the exact same file type in both. You may be using compressed or lossless compressed in one and uncompressed in the other. If you are using exactly the same file size, the capacity is the same. If using one of the compressed formats, it's a rough approximation and actual number of frames can be quite different than reality.

I used uncompressed RAW in both cases. Although the sensor is identical in the two cameras the file sizes are somewhat different; the a7RV RAW files are 129.8MB while the a7RIV files are about 123MB. That file size difference does not account for the difference in card capacity.

That's interesting. I haven't noticed a difference but then I shoot the a7R5 and a1 in lossless compressed

The RV is my first opportunity to use the "lossless compressed RAW" format. Is there any reason to stick with the full, uncompressed RAW files on the RV?
