We recently spent a few nights in the Richtersveld National Park in South Africa, part of the Ai-Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park that straddles our country and the neighbouring Namibia.
This is as remote as you can get in Southern Africa, which means you are very far from any meaningful light pollution, which in turn means the night skies are magnificent. I captured this photo just before dawn in the Kokerboomkloof campsite - you can actually see the sunlight illuminating the hills in the background...and look how much of the Milky Way is still visible! There was not a sound to be heard except my own breathing and the rustle of my clothing as I adjusted the camera settings - quite eerie and inspiring.
