This guy has been hanging around my wife's flowers for a couple days. Finally got the chance to photograph him yesterday. I don't like the OOF legs on the left, but even at f/32 there is little DOF at 2x magnification. I tried this with 24EX flash and 550EX with softbox, and liked the softbox image better. Canon 1D2, 180mm + 2x, ISO 100, flash w/softbox, 1/250 @ f/32, 2x magnification. All comments and suggestions for improvement greatly appreciated.

Well Bob, this little guy looks like he is ready to put the "big hurt" on something or someone! :)
I don't think that I would be to concerned with the tips of the OOF legs, as the rest of the image has enough power within to overcome that.
The details in the spider, in the petals surrounding the spider, the excellent color in the spider, and the colors shown in the flower are stunning!
Excellent technique used, ............. and yep, ...................... love it!!!

Thanks for posting Bob!

I like it as is Bob Shooting parallel to the film plane would have given you the legs is focus. I do like this composition much better (great angle)

Really beautiful! Love the colors. Great focus - it's just too bad that the legs on the left are a bit oof, but even with that, it's a fantastic image!

You're on a roll now Bob! These vibrant coloured flower images and the exquisite detail in their resident bugs are excellent!

Great composition with this one as well! 8) 8) 8) 8) :)

Perfect pose of this crab spider in a great setting. I don't think the OOF legs detract at all. The only way to cope with DOF at these magnifications is to change the camera/subject lineup, and that is always a compromise with the composition.
