I love sitting in among the bushes, weeds, etc. while looking through the lens and picking out compositions.
This was in a area with some weeds that had grown up to 2-3ft in height, so I simply sat down with the Canon Rebel 300D, attached the Canon 100mm macro & teleconverter, and started composing.
The light while sitting below the tops of the weeds and in the way that it filtered downward was wonderful!

:?: I like the soft effect all around.. how did you make it? Is it because of the lens?
I might crop from the top to where the 'brach' leaves the frame... I think it brings more attention to the bloom
nice background colors.. :)

Thanks Daniel!

Actually, most of the soft effect that you see is from shooting through the foliage in the foreground.
Many times I will shoot like this to get that effect of softness, while trying to maintain a partially cleared path from the lens to the main part of the subject that I would like to have more detail in.
Try it sometimes!
Personally, ...... it's one of my favorite ways of shooting!

Thanks again Daniel, ........ appreciate it! :)

I do that often as well :)

Colours, composition, all first-rate; I like the slightly quirky crop too. The arrangement of leaves seems almost anthropomorphic somehow but when you look at it closer you can't quite figure it . . . very intriguing. Also good is the foreground colours being echoed in the background, and the repetition of the curves of the leaves is like a dance - to make a long story even longer, in short, there is nothing I don't like about this one 8)

Thanks Jason!

Anthropomorphic? I sure had to look that one up! :)
I guess that you could get a feel of some "human qualities" within this shot, and a feel of the curled leaves dancing. Lots to think about!

Personally, I wished that more individuals would shoot like this, or at least give it a try. You just don't see it being done that much, as many prefer the more detailed world of macro.
I really like to shoot insects in this manner in order to get that "in their world" feeling within the image.
Shooting flowers also while looking through foliage can give such a powerful, yet subtle and artistic feel about it that I love!

Would love to see some of your images and how you approach it using this method. I love looking at them all!! :)

Take care Jason, and again, .......... many thanks!

This is when you come up with some of your most stunning work Mike! I remember some of the other shots you've posted when you've been lurking in the undergrowth.

This is a beauty! Love it! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) :)

This has a mysterious quality about it - it's not clear what's entwining what, but the design is visually compelling. A case where merges of different leaves make a bigger abstract design. The colors add a lot. I like it!

I don't how to describe it but the artistic quality in this one is extraordinary. Really like the composition and the background. I think may be stronger highlight on bud and a tighter crop off the bottom may look better to me.

As you say, just keep the mind fresh. :)

Thank you for sharing.

Lurking in the weeds again! This is terrific. I love the soft light and the comp. The background is awesome. How do you get this much DOF on the subject and still have soft backgrounds?
Thanks,
