"China pledges to end ivory trading and says the U.S. should too." HaHa! To date, the U.S. has done way more than just pledge to ban it. Commercial import of African elephant ivory already is prohibited in the U.S., as well as many other regulations. China is THE most outrageous offender to conservation in the world. They are wiping out sharks, turtles, rhinos, and many other species with their indulgent soups, monkey brain dishes, exotic pet sales, and "medicinal" powders. If we start looking to China as a conservation leader we've already lost the fight. I'm glad to see these two countries coming together to put an end to ivory poaching once and for all, but China has a whole lot more work that needs to be done besides a ban on ivory.

P.S. China also makes a soup called "Spare Rib Soup." The main ingredient is too graphic for me to even list here, look it up if you want, but I'll warn you to avoid looking at the extremely graphic photos of it. It's allegedly used for sexual potency of course. Yeah China!

I am afraid that you may be right Rick.

China's president will probably not keep his word.  But if he does not, do not expect any American president to stand up to him.  I am beginning to believe they are in cahoots.  I mean, it is about money, politics and power.

The Chinese people are known to be one of the most cruel-to-animals on Earth.  Oh yes they are.   I am not going to get into examples.   Oh yes, I just googled "spare rib soup".  This is difficult to believe.

There are some indications that these horrors may be lessoning in China.

Hey….we can still hope the Chinese president follows through on his word.
