If you're not angry, you should be!

http://news.stanford.edu/news/2013/augu ... 80113.html

By all credible accounts (NOT POLITICAL ACCOUNTS!!!!) we are STUCK within the midst of the 6th great extinction of life on Earth.  Folks, this has been going on for at east 30 years.  And I would say it is more close to 50 years.  For it has been documented that the plummet in our (America only) passerine bird populations began about 50 years ago.

1.  We are stuck on a planet that we have sickened and continue to cause great damage to…with no end in sight.

2.  Sadly, selfishly, we have forced this onto all the species that we share Earth with.

3.  Effectively, we humans have become a parasite that is causing severe damage to the Biosphere.

4.. We have done nothing to slow this and until we do...it is going to get worse at a faster pace…..

BECAUSE MOST OF THE WORLD THAT DIRECTLY EFFECTS THE OUTCOME….. EITHER DOES NOT BELIEVE IT, WILL NOT BELIEVE IT AND/OR ……….. FOR THE SAKE OF AMASSING MORE WEALTH….LIES TO THE REST OF US, WHILE KNOWING THAT IT IS HAPPENING!

5.  ZERO POP GROWTH:  We still have not even begun to address one of the most serious problems causing this climate change…..a yet unbridled human population growth.

6.  WE ARE PERVERTING OURSELVES:  We see as natural….urban settings with nothing but steel, concrete and pavement.

7.  This is sick, because…..  Cites produce nothing biological, BUT for their survival…..cities require vastly more biological production than natural systems require to maintain themselves.  Cities take everything from nature and give nothing back!  Cities are inherently weak…succeptible, parasitic.

8.  CITIES PARASITIZE NATURE!

9.  We are producing more cities, while we are destroying nature at a faster rate!

10.  Humans are destroying the Biosphere's ability to support them.  Well, we already are beginning to see many systems collapsing.  As just one example, How many dead spots are in the oceans already?  How do you reverse dead spots in the oceans?

We must reach zero population growth.  We need to reduce pop growth to one child per adult pair's lifetime.

I submit to all that there is NO NEED FOR ANY FAMILY TO HAVE MORE THAN ONE CHILD.

What do you say in response to this?

All your points are well-taken.  But, unfortunately, you're spitting into the wind.  All your points were made on the first Earth Day 45 years ago and we've done nothing (except condemn China for their one-child rule).  We're currently watching a cadre of conservative presidential candidates who, to the person, deny climate change and even evolution.  A recent statement by the one apparently the most scientifically educated candidate, Ben Carson, proves my point:  "The big bang theory is a "fairy tale" spread by high-faluting scientists, and evil lurks behind the theory of evolution."  Later, Carson said he personally believed Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution was encouraged by the devil. "Amazingly, there are a significant number of scientists who do not believe it but they're afraid to say anything," As my friend, another biologist says, "Evolution is not something you believe in.  It's like gravity, something you know about."

Unfortunately (for humanity) nature has a way for leveling the playing field.  Possibly the incurable air-borne virus will do the job and we can really watch evolution at work.  Until then we'll plod on using these excuses:

1) We're too clever to let anything like this happen.
2) It's all a big liberal hoax.
3) God will see us through.
4) Jesus is coming pretty soon anyway.
