Most of my (actually all  ) of my safari experiences are at the local zoo. Do enjoy shooting the animals but find it difficult regarding the light.

Opening and closing hours are not set with photographer is mind :)

Canon 1Ds
500 f4 IS 1.4X
f 8.0 1/125 sec
ISO 200
Incident reading from shaded meter no comp

Comments welcome and much appreciated

Nice close up Al. I think this is a female white cheeked Gibbon. Great detail. Totally agree on the light issues and the hours.. 9-5 is hardly good times for photography expect maybe at the winter solstice. Thanks for posting.

Very nice portrait. I like it even better cropped to a vertical to even more focus on the face and her expression. Thanks for posting.

I love the pose and the incredible detail in her fur. The eyes really draw you in. You did a nice job getting the detail given how hard it is to get light at a zoo. I agree with Cheryl on cropping to emphasize the eyes, however what I saw was to crop the left just to the edge of the head and leave in a horizontal format. I like the raised arm framing the face.

I couldn't agree with you more on the difficulty of getting good captive animal shots during the opening hours of zoos and animal parks! If more people realized this they would know what excellent training it is to overcome this challenge - and is certainly not the easy option!!

I think you have handled the lighting very well on this Gibbon and produced an excellent image. 8) 8) 8) :)

Good detail and exposure but I'd agree that the vertical is the more pleasing comp.

I have many White-Handed Gibbons photos and consider this close up very good. The light at the MMZ exhit is not favorable to take pictures of these primates.
