The USA has still not put in place regulations against importation of elephant ivory, even as poaching continues unchecked and the NRA lobbies against such regulations so they can continue hunting elephants.

Please urge Obama to get those regulations in place ASAP.

If the NRA is against it, it will never ever happen in the USA. You can lobby until you are blue in the face.

Roberta:

I googled this and you sure are right.  But I guess I should not be shocked that the NRA would be that irresponsible.

I am against gun control in America.  At the same time, I detest the NRA.

Pity the African elephant.

I signed the petition…and thank you for you efforts.

Still worth trying, E.J. Never say never! I am not sure how focussed their opposition is to this, just that they are opposed.

They are energized:

I think their argument is thinly veiled and not why they really oppose it but...

Again, anything the NRA wants, the NRA gets in the US.  If they score the vote, it is political suicide in all but the west coast and the northeast to vote against what the NRA wants.

OMG, what a ridiculous reason to oppose important measures to protect elephants - ivory inlay in guns and and ivory handled gun tools! https://www.nraila.org/articles/2014030 ... fact-sheet

But these are the people who opposed gun control in the wake of Columbine and other tragedies.

They are nuts!

It's unfortunate that some feeble minded Americans cannot see farther than the pearly handles of their prized pistolas when it comes to such a truly historic and tragic situation. Elephant poaching is rampant in many parts of Africa. Populations have recently been declared to have reached the point of not being able to replenish the losses. Criminal gangs, corruption and greed are big time problems that can only be turned around with big time leadership.

For more information please take the time to read the report "Vanishing Point" that is linked farther down in this forum. It's very well done.
