What is interesting about these wolves settling in the Southern Cascades is that Stephenson (USF&WS coordinator) thought they would end up there and I argued that I thought SW Oregon would be the place (more rugged and wild). The northern third of California is actually the most peopleless area, it just a matter of a good prey base.
