I have a number of images of this ram- he was suprisingly cooperative. Most large rams in the Chugach Mtns near Anchorage are quite elusive since part of their range is open to permit hunting (although not in the area where this was taken.)

Sometimes you have to be good, other times you have to be lucky. I was certainly lucky on this day.

Hey Tim,

This is the guy you were telling me about. Great ram! The light's a little tough, but this one is pretty nice all the same. I like the alert pose and his body form, though I might be tempted to rotate this to the right a tad.

These guys are SO different to the Alasakan Range sheep .. that horn is so much tighter and heavier.

Man, I wish I could find these guys a bit cleaner sometime.

A word of warning to other viewers: Do not attempt this at home .. I've gone partway up the mtns with Tim after sheep, and the man is CRAZY! :)

Cheers

Carl

An outstanding shot. My only wish is a hair more room at the bottom to avoid the appearance of the lower hind leg being cut off

Superb shot Tim! In his prime and loving every minute by the look of it!! Again the diagonal pose really sets this off as he balances on the mountainside. 8) 8) 8) 8) :)

Being good, lucky and crazy is paying off! This shot really shows the steep terrain and the prime condition of this guy.

This is a beautiful shot, Tim! I love the pose and the lighting. I guess this "flatlander" is going to have to work to get into better shape before the next time in Alaska. I want a shot at one of these guys.

Now I agree with Kelly that being, good, lucky and a little crazy does pay off. Somehow, I think the crazy part comes when you get that first really good look at a beautiful animal like this...then it doesn't seem to matter what you have to climb over to get to it. I remember the place where we got off the main trails and got a really good look at the moose...after that, it seemed easy to get to him, but intellectually, I know that had to be the roughest part of the hike.
