Taken at Monterey Bay Aquarium a few weeks back. This was one of the better tropical reef fish shots I was able to get. Also known as a Moorish Idol or Long-fin Bannerfish

1d Mk II + 70-200mm f/2.8L @ 200mm. f/4.5, ISO125, 1/250th, Fill -1 2/3.

Wonderful subject and techs look nailed to me.. Overall, I could wish for a little separation of the fish from the colors in the background and probably tough to do since subject appears to be very close to reef materials behind. Probably with PS could achieve the separation by darkening slightly the background and slightly desat the colors and only sharpening the subject. Keep up the good work Chris and have a great trip to Ec.

One of the best aquariums in the world! This is an excellent shot. It does feel a little compressed with no seperation between the background and the fish.

There are such amazing shapes and colour schemes on fish, and this illustrates that nicely Chris. My only nit is that it is difficult to get a sense of depth with this shot. 8) 8) :)

Hi Chris,

That is a longfin bannerfish, but not a Moorish Idol. The Moorish Idol looks similar, but it's a sub-species of the sturgeon fish while the bannerfish is a member of the butterflyfish family.

The Moorish Idol has a much sharper snout too

Nice shot though! :D
