Cropping did make it a lot better, thanks for the advice.

Found this watersnake sunning himself on a log. So, I went wading into the creek for a low angle shot.

10D, 300 F4 IS + 1.4x TC, ISO 200, 1/500 @ f6.3.

Good DOF control. An excellent shot. Cropping both top and bottom might make it even better.

I really like reptile shots. The crop really shows the Water Snake off better.
