Reposted, for the Motif. I know it's not a technical wonder, but it's still one of my favourite wildlife shots that I've ever taken, because of the action it shows.

This is the full width of the slide. Below are 100% crops from the 2800 dpi scan so you can see the animals better. (The vignetting is less obvious on my home monitor and printer...)

The caribou got away. Good thing too, 'cause the woodland caribou are in far greater trouble as a species than the wolves. This wolf pack had apparently taken down two moose and two elk in the week before this (a fresh elk carcass is a short ways out of the frame to the left), so they weren't exactly hungry.

This wolf is a youngster. I didn't see the alpha male (a big white guy) on that trip. I can't be 100% sure, but looking at the blow-up of the wolf, I think this is one of the ones with a radio collar.

Paul, neat image for sure. It appears the wolf is wearing a collar.
We had two encounters with wolves in Katmai, AK. last week and we are hoping for more when we are in Jasper this Nov.

Best,

I liked this before and I still do Paul. It says a lot about the vastness of the habitat and the eternal struggle for survival of the fittest. Thanks for posting. 8) 8) 8) :)

Love the action and the geese just standing there watching. They're really the surprise to me!
