Hi,
I wanted to try posting in the Flora gallery an image URL from Flickr or from my website....but it doesn't seem to work, even if the image is only 70kb! I am sorry if this is a dumb question, but could someone explain to me how to go about that? I have already tried several different things and the upload window says please wait, then does nothing!

Eirini,

Can you tell me what browser you're using and whether it's a mobile device or standard computer? The process sounds correct ..

I tried using Firefox and then Safari.  I am using a Mac laptop.

Here is the URL I was trying to post: http://www.flickr.com/photos/backyardar ... 362834560/

I did several forms of it....with or without http....with a tinyurl...etc.

I am also unable to post a URL to an image on Flickr - and I am also using an iMac with Safari.

This is the URL that I am attempting to use:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/9036119@N02/8366827606/

or, the long form:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/9036119@N02/8366827606/" title="Mountain Goat at 14,000 feet! by Tom Reichner, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8498/8366 ... 9d01_o.jpg" width="670" height="458" alt="Mountain Goat at 14,000 feet!"></a>

I tried both URLs - the long version and the short one - and each failed.  Do we have to use that "UPLOAD AN IMAGE" button, and then, from the menu, select "Enter the URL of your image", or can we just insert the URL along with our text the way we used to be able to do it?

This was not a problem with the "old" NatureScapes site, so maybe it happened as a result of the site upgrade?  I must say that the current format for submitting a new post is somewhat confusing, or at least seems more complex than the "old" way of doing it.

It'd be great if we could get some feedback on how to get these URLs successfully posted.
Also, do we need to be using the "long" URL, or the much shorter one?  Flickr gives us two options, and I do not know which one will work here.

The problem is that neither of the URL's you tried to link to are actual images... You need to link to an actual jpeg not a web page. The first URL goes to a flicker page (with an image on it) but we need JUST the image link and not a web page - the second link may work if you make the address end with jpg (you need to remove the %quot; at the end of the link otherwise it will fail). Neither of the links you are trying would have worked on the old site either.

So, what you need to enter is just the image address which, in this case, looks like this:  (notice I removed the &qout;)

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8498/8366 ... 9d01_o.jpg

As far as the new system being confusing I personally designed it to be a lot easier (and most others agree that it is - no entering of code etc - just enter a proper image address) - you just need to link to an actual image that's all - and thus far you've not been linking to a proper image.

Thanks for the tips, Greg!  I appreciate your helpfulness.

I'll try what you recommended.  Just one question, can we still just put the URL into the body of our reply, like we used to be able to do?  Or do we need to use that "pop-up" box type of thing, and enter the URL there?  I guess that's what has been confusing me.

No you can not, because it will not create a thumbnail. Please use the upload image button as it's designed - its actually much easier/better in the long run as everything, in terms of where elements go, is automatic. You click a button to upload the image, create your own thumbnail and then enter your caption and everything comes together automatically with the image on top and caption neatly under - no worries about spacing or text wrapping etc.

This continues to be difficult.

Over the past week, I've tried it over & over & over & over again, in many different ways . . . even tried Greg's instructions to the letter (or, more accurately, "to the character space"). No luck - no matter if I put "jpg" or .jpg" at the end, it still comes back with the error message:
Unable to retrieve image from http://www.flickr.com/photos/9036119%40 ... 827606/jpg

I am wondering if Flickr even makes a URL to the actual image available to it's users. When, in Flickr, I click on the "share" button, it only gives me the following options:

1) Grab the BBCode
Image

Mountain Goat at 14,000 feet! by Tom Reichner, on Flickr

2) Grab the link
http://www.flickr.com/photos/9036119@N02/8366827606/

3) show short URL
http://flic.kr/p/dKmbmo

4) Grab the HTML
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/9036119@N02/8366827606/" title="Mountain Goat at 14,000 feet! by Tom Reichner, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8498/8366 ... 9d01_o.jpg" width="670" height="458" alt="Mountain Goat at 14,000 feet!"></a>

These are the only options Flickr gives us. I have tried each and every one of them with jpg added to the end of them, as well as adding .jpg to the end. None has worked thus far. I am now at a loss as to what to try next.

I wish there was a way I could go into other flickr user's posts and see the URL they entered (this used to be available by clicking "quote" on the OP of a thread). But when I click "quote" now, I don't see the actual URL to the gallery image - that appears to be "hidden", and all I see is the comment that the OP entered.

From the HTML (step 4 above) simply pull out the image address and end at ".jpg" and not "&quot" - don't try and add .jpg if it's not already there because that surely will not work. But .jpg is already there in the link above.

For instance this image (from step 4) would be http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8498/8366 ... 9d01_o.jpg  which is an actual image address that you can link to. All I did was remove the "&quot"
