Congratulations! This is the Image of the Week selection for the Flora and Macro Gallery, week ending 17th August, 2012!
Image
Well the MP-E is used. Picked it up a couple of weeks ago and have been patiently waiting for the focus rail to come in.

Right away, I can see the difference in quality from the reverse setup. Clarity edge to edge. I also noticed there seems to be more DOF. I would have needed about 100 images to get the image below with my reverse setup.

43 images, f5.6, 1.3sec, ISO100, MP-E65 @ 3x, 3 LEDs, diffused with plastic cup, lined with paper towel, mirror lockup, remote shutter release, focus rail.

Congrats on the fine image and the new lens.

My experience is that diopters and reversed lenses cut down DOF, though I don't know the optical reason why. I know you'll love the lens. A focus rack is essential for me with this lens - and your LED light rig will be a big help. The MP-E65 eats up light at higher magifications.

really outstanding!!!
your other stacks are nice, but it seems that this new and more simple optical setup is vastly superior .... makes me think i should buy a canon body just for using this lens :-)
but then i would not have the patience to achieve such a technical result :-)
light is spot on here
seems this jumper was quite cooperative also ;-)

excellent work....

Hi

Absolutely stunning – the details and lighting are working superbly. Perhaps a little nit compositionally would be a little more breathing space especially left. But still a splendid view

All the best
Matthew

Amazing!!! It is so clear it almost looks fake!:)
I am sure it went into the fridge too! It's hard to imagine getting one of these to sit still for 42 images!
Beautiful job!

Wow! This image is not only technically perfect, it's a work of art. Nicely done. I love the MP-E. It's my favorite macro lens.
