(Green Lake Sunrise, Whistler - British Columbia)
Nikon D100, Nikkor AF-S 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G, 10 sec, f/16, 24mm (EF 36mm), Manual Exposure / Spot Meter, WB Cloudy -1, ISO 200, Singh-Ray 2 stop soft edge NDG, 100% of full frame

I had trouble composing this shot. If I were shooting horizontal I would have no problem placing the horizon in the middle, for the mere fact that I was trying to emphasize the reflection. My question is, does this horizon placement work as well when you are shooting vertically and trying to emphasize the reflection? My usual tendency would be to place it closer to the bottom or the top. I could crop it in PS but I'm worried about losing too much image data.

Your opinions will be greatly apreciated.

Hi,

like ti as is, If I were to do anythin it would be to look for a hair more at the top and crop the bottom just below where the water turns dark blue. That woudl move the horizon down a hair,a nd provide some balance between topa nd bottom. My $0.02, as a non-landscape person :D

I think this photo works great with a centered horizon.

wonderful colors and a very nice graphical quality. i feel the image being split is not a problem with me. did you happen to try different horizon locations for this location?

Nice. I would have composed it the same way.

The center split works fine but I do find the white streak (reflection) on the left a bit distracting. Also seeing some dust or something on the lower right side of the frame, easy to clean up with the clone tool. I love the soft pastel blues and the overlapping colors of the mountains.
Thanks, Mike

Actually, that was something that was floating in the water. I debated whether or not to clone them out.
