I panned with the bee as he landed, trailing arcs of pollen from the extnsion of his back legs on approach. I was just able to get focus as he stopped in the rockclimber pose. Early morning light required opening up to 5.6, so DOF is lower than I would like. Flash would have been better, but I'm hooked on the backlighted morning glory throat (-2/3 comp)!

This re-post image is a tighter crop (about 30% of the original).

Very nice colors involved in this and I like the tight crop/composition.

There is to much blurring going on in this shot that really does not help with the overall appeal, and I figured that shooting with a ISO of 800 would have allowed for a higher shutter speed to freeze the motion of the bee and making it easy for it to be handheld.
I don't really know what happened, but it simply is far to OOF.

Was the wind blowing a good bit in this shot, or maybe you did not have a sturdy stance?

Just trying to help Gary, and thanks for posting!

Mike, thanks for taking the time to comment. I re-posted a tighter crop to address some of your concerns. Unfortunately at 5.6, DOF is limited, and the spray of pollen is blurred at 1/60s, but it does convey the sense of motion.

In response to the jests about technique, I was kneeling low with one knee solidly on the ground, both elbows planted firmly against my knees as I carefully squeezed off the shot, and there was no wind.

Thanks for looking!
