Flying Fox Fruit Bat

This is Batty. She was a subjec at an advanced nature photographers workshop where we were learning how to do multiple flash setups.

Nikon N90S with either 105 macro or 80-200 (I don't remember which I was using), Provia 100, flash meter

Great job! The flash really made Batty pop without looking, well, too flashy. I like her peek from around the wings too.

Wow, this is really nice, just perfectly lit to make her stand out from the bg. You should've saved this one for a Halloween motif!

I love this image. I have wanted to shoot one of these ever since I saw yours. What a cool animal. An ideal subject for the flash. Some things do look more natural with a black BG. This is one. Thanks for posting it.

Cool! You know and expect it to be flash because it's a bat - and a pretty relaxed and regal bat at that - but it's subtle as well because you've got a highlight where you want it as well as just enough light on the wing to show it without glare. Very impressive.

Very very cool. Love the leathery wing. Would be a great one for a Halloween motif!.. Way to go Cheryl!
