Sun, July 27 2004, 1dmk2 +1.4x; +400/5.6L, Baader Astro Solar Filter (1:1000000), (0.4x0.4) 'severe' crop, slight usm

Getting the result of the Sun from the 1dmk2 was really fun. With slides and telescope even I never got the result I got here within minutes. The details in the Sunspots are amazing. (Check my homepage if you want to see a 100% crop) And I think it can be done better, as I had noise reduction still on and people told me it would be sharper with this turned off. Oh yes, the 1dmk2 wasn't able to AF properly on the limb, which was quite surprizing as my eos 3 could do (I see the difference better with the moon), so this was hand focussed.

For comparisson you can find a spacebased picture of about the same time here:
http://soho.nascom.nasa.gov/data/realti ... di_igr.gif
(I'm not sure how long this will stay here. It will be zipped at some point)

The details seen in the original include all the spots, but also the filaments around the spots and lower on the right site. The 100% version on my website is done with very basic processing, not optimized for the filaments.

Because the filter creates a blue(ish) Sun, I have changed the WB to 10000 K for the orange look, somewhat like another filter I use.

Hope you can enjoy the sunscape as there is no land in it...

Cheers

Peter

Very cool! I'd like to thank that sun spot for the auroras from the past week! :)
