Hello

Has anybody ordered from 4InkJets before? And how was their service ? I am looking for a place to order replacement ink cartridges for my printer. Or, does anybody have any other suggestions where I can get replacement ink for my printer at a reasonable cost? They sell their generic brand ink for $5.99. Is the generic brand ink cartridges just as good as the name brand? I recently bought a Canon IP 4700 Printer. The prints come out great, but at $13.00 each for replacement Canon Ink Cartridges it can get expensive. It has 5 separate slots for ink cartridges. I have already had to replace the red and my yellow is getting low. I don't plan on using the printer too much for printing prints. I used it to get some quick prints for the Holidays. I now plan on using it mostly for printing documents

Thank you

Rick

Rick - Some replacement inks are very good and some aren't, and I can't comment on the ones you mentioned unfortunately. I will say, though, that good or bad, different inks will require different paper/ink profiles for the printer to get good results. The standard profiles that came with the printer or that you download from websites will be assuming the Canon brand inks. It's very likely that a different brand would behave slightly differently. There also could be print longevity issues with other ink brands, but I'm not sure if that matters to you.

As far as your printer usage, if you're mostly printing documents, do the color inks get used much? If not, then you're just talking about the black ink, and it should use less doing documents than doing prints. Prints will always take a lot of ink. But if you don't plan on doing many of them, maybe the cost of finding a different ink source isn't worth it? Of course, if you're just doing documents, the generic ink issues (longevity and profiles) probably don't matter, but I wouldn't want to switch back and forth between ink brands in the same printer.

And ink is always the most expensive thing about a printer. From what I've heard, a lot of printer manufacturers sell the actual printers at cost or even below, just to be able to eventually sell you the ink.

My thought is to stick with the Canon inks, but perhaps someone here knows other brands' inks well and can comment.

Thank you very much. I think I will stick to the Canon brand ink. I get most of my prints from Wallgreens. They do a great job.

I use a Canon ip 4200 & like you I hated the high cost of ink. After much internet searching I came up with this company in Germany http://www.patronenhandel.de that sells an ink cartridge chip Resetter that really works well. I've tested their Sudhaus inks & have recently re-ordered 1 litre sized bottles of ink as my tests of their smaller bottles of all 5 color inks were a complete success. In just visual comparisons with Canon inks, I could see no difference but I am also not worried about the archival nature of these prints from this printer. If I were, then more testing would be required or I'd stick with Canon inks & only use Canon paper, (which I don't). Hardware profiling the two ink brands might produce some difference but I dont' have access to do that. But as I said, their Sudhaus inks are to me the same as the Canon inks.

You can purchase just the chip resetter from them, or get a kit with the resetter & inks & or with their blank refillable cartridges (which I have not done). Refilling is a bit of a pain, especially at first, but I have a workflow now & it's relatively painless. 2 complete sets of cartridges that get swapped helps when making many prints.

I have experienced zero clogs from using their inks & no problems from many many chip resets. I have learned that I need to do a cleaning cycle after putting in new refilled cartrdiges as the change over seems to cause misprints. So I try to refill & change any & all inks that are low at the same time so as to do as few cleaning cycles as possible, which itself uses some inks to clear the print heads.

For saving money, it's considerable & I'll keep my Canon printer going as long as possible due to this supplier or get another that the supplier has inks for. The chip resetter is invaluable & a must have. The service is excellent & shipping pretty fast & probably much faster if you live in or near a major city with good courier service. I don't.

I would & will also otry their Pro Natura inks when my present supply runs out, as they read to be non-toxic. The website though has a few quircks with English translation but it is manageable & minor to me. I highly recommend them & only as a very satisfied customer.

My other suggestion would be to try to order as many things at once as you can to save on shipping costs, which for smaller packages can be quite high given that they use a courier service vs. the post office. But even with the shipping cost, the savings are considerable if not huge. I can't get Canon inks for $13 other than online but closer to $20 each. Costco seems for me the best price, but still too high.

Check Atlex.com for ink prices. Ordering a bunch of carts will spread out the shipping fees a little better. For genuine inks, I've found them to have about the best prices around and they ship from multiple locations so you should have your order in a few days.

I've always stuck with Canon inks, even though out here in Oz they were asking as mush as $29! for a BCI-6 cartridge, not many places offer discounted ink prices and I ended getting them shipped from B&H. I had that printer for about 8 years and the colours seemed pretty consistant in that time. I've gone to an iPf printer now and I'll be staying with canon inks for that.

Just found this fine site via Eric Chan's excellent article on Printing, Profiling one's printer and monitor. Superb article for anyone entering this photo world. My post below is a aggregation of info culled by me to assist others anxiously wanting to know what inks, cartridges, accessories are needed to safely and sanely defeat the excessive greed of the printer mfg'rs. My only relationship with the business's below is the inkstains on my hands. Please feel free to pass the info below to your camera clubs, schools or social groups. It can be a substantial money saver for all.

I have used the Canon s9000,i9900 and now the pro9000. Immediately after buying the first one I purchased refillable BCI-6 carts and now use refillable CLI-8 carts w/wo auto resettable chips (Pro9000).

Ditto for ink, you may not know this but the cost of the ink contained in OEM carts run 3-5 times the cost of human blood!! Over the last decade of my printing I've polled the photo sites and other users to determine whose stuff I can trust sanely and safely.

Among the good inks listed below you can pay over a 3:1 range; $11-32/pint, the OCP ink cost to fill a CLI8 cart is $0.24!!
For the good auto/manual reset chips the range is: $2-13/chip

If you choose manual reset chips or just want reset your OEM carts after refilling expect to pay $12-39 for the resetter. Your original Canon carts with good care might even last longer than your printer, considering cost of repair!

These are some of the business's I and my fellow hobbyist's enjoy:

For less than the cost of replacing the 8 cart set for a i9900 or Pro9000 you get a complete set of filled, refillable, with auto reset chips carts ready to plug into your Pro9000! No??? Call Ross at inkjetcarts. While you are doing this, spend another $15 and get a resetter for your OEM carts, don't dump them-they can be refilled many times. Note: payback is after 1 refilled cart, the ink cost refill is only 25-50 cents.
Call Linda at rjettek and get the excellent OCP inks for your BCI-6 and CLI-8 carts, $12-14 for 16 oz bottles, 1/2 to 1/4 the price of of the other vendors. Call, visit the above sites there is a wealth on information to be gleaned.

good luck irv weiner

4inkjets is great. I have also had good experiences with 123inkjets.com and inkcartridges.com. the Canon Ink cartridges at these 3 places are all reasonably priced and of great quality.

Does 123inkjets offers free delivery for any purchases made from them? or certain amount must be purchased to avail free delivery? I heard that their black ink is not that dark,is it true?
someday you will find me,caught beneath the landslide......
