I would like to print some B&W images. What paper is best for B&W glossy or mat paper.
Prints will be placed behind glass.

Thanks
Jos

The best is whatever you like the best? Do you prefer a matte paper with lower dynamic range or a glossy paper which generally has higher Dmax or something in between? Do you like a warm paper or a cool paper from a color standpoint? Do you prefer a smooth surface or a textured surface? Do you prefer a real thick paper or something thinner? ... so many choices.

My preference for B&W is a neutral bright white smooth matte paper but there could be times when I want something warmer or something textured. There simply is no right answer.

Your best bet might be to order one of the sampler boxes from Moab or Red River or Hahnemuehle or one of the other fine paper makers and try them out to see what you prefer. But make sure you print with the appropriate profile for each paper which are downloadable form the different paper manufacturer's sites.

Thanks E.J., I think I will try matte first, maybe the reflection on glossy when put behind glass will be disturbing.
Thanks again

Hahnmuehle Photo Rag is good, so is Moab Entrada, which is what I now use. I've heard exellent reports about Breathing Color paper, but I haven't tried it yet.

I can chime in for Breathing Color papers as they are what I am beginning to switch to. Their Optica One is an absoultely beautiful paper for a smooth paper. Their Elegance Velvet is my favorite textured paper. I like it MUCH better than Epson's Summerset Velvet. They both look gorgeous with Black and White.
