Chromatic Pool - Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
EOS 1Ds, 24-70 @ 24mm, 1/125, f/8, ISO 100

I just love the many pools and geysers in Yellowstone and Chromatic Pool is one of my favorites. It just looks like a good old pancake with syrup and a dash of jam in the center to me :)

All I can see now is pancakes... I love the perspective on this.

Beautiful photo, EJ! Great title too. I'm curious to know what makes the different colors in the pool? I love the orange.

Wonderful! (As usual)

Your pancake comparison is right on the mark!

I've got to get down to Yellowstone one of these days. It's only a day's drive from here, after all (~14 hrs).

The different colors are created by different bacteria which grows at different temperatures of water so as the water cools at the edge, there is different bacteria that lives there creating a different color. The dark center is actually where the thermal spring that feeds this pool goes down into the earth.

E.J.,

Very cool and interesting shot! I agree with your pancake comparison too from this perspective, but from directly overhead I'll bet it looks like a big eye!
Best Regards,

Gorgeous.
What did you use to convert this file from RAW?
I ask because I am having trouble with C1SE v3.5... over cooking shades of yellow.

This is exactly why I don't use C1. I used DPP or BreezeBrowser - can't remember which for this shot - probably BB since its a 1Ds file.

Wonderful shot. I love the composition and the colors. I have had much beter luck with C1 since I have bought the Magne profiles,. They work so much better than the C1 profiles for the 1Ds http://etcetera.cc/pub/index.php/articl ... ew/14/1/2/.

Wow, very cool!
When it first loaded I thought I misread what forum, and who's post it was.
I figured I must be in ehk, looking at one of Harvey's PS jobs :)

With Stupede (Stampede) week starting tomorrow, I'll be seeing a lot of pancakes.
