Mountain Goat - Mount Evans, Colorado
EOS 1D Mark II, 300mm, 1/800, f/11, ISO 200

They say that for every species of animal, there is at least one place on Earth where they are accessible for photography. For Mountain Goats it has to be Mount Evans just west of Denver. This shot and many others was taken on Tuesday about a half hour after a snow quick dusting of snow moved through. This image was taken at about 13,500 feet above sea level, well above the timberline.

A fine shot! I like the distant mountains being recognizable. A nice looking animal too.

I photographed a group of three about a mile from the summit from 4:00PM to 6:30PM and then another group of three from 6:30PM to sundown just above timberline. Never had to get more than 50 feet from the car.

That is one long face!!- Still, perhaps I wouldn't be so cheerful up a mountain with snow in June!! :(

Nice shot, excellent exposure. 8) 8) 8) :)

... and there was me thinking "strewth, imagine lugging that lot up to 13.5k" :) Who was that famous photographer who had a quote along the lines of "if it's more than 150yards from the car it isn't scenery" ?

Very nice!

I love these guys. I only get to see them a couple times a year, normally when they're shedding. You've captured this one wonderfully--it really shows the environment, and how harsh it can be (with the wind).
