This is a nice scene Jim. The only thing that I think would have improved the image is if the lighting were better.

just so i don't waste any more of my valuable time taking pictures, what type of light would be better for this image?

i would like to know for future outings so that i don't make the same mistake again.

I rarely comment on other critiques but this one struck me as being out of left field - you couldn't ask for better lighting for this sort of photograph - its exactly what you want. If it were sunny, the lighting would be dappled since this was obviously taken in the woods and have hot spots all over the place or black spots all over the place depending on how you exposed.

It's a fine picture the way it is.
