Great new forum! The embedded video includes several clips from my initial attempts at shooting with a 5D Mark II. After a few tries, it was obvious that while some skills translate from still to video, there are plenty of technical challenges to learn and gear to lust after. I posted my initial impressions on my blog at outdoor photographer.com. If you're thinking about making the jump to video with a DSLR, I think you'll appreciate the post: http://www.outdoorphotographer.com/comm ... ation.html.

Nice and calming nature scenes, Jerry. I read your impressions, and many of the things you wrote are similar to my experiences too. I'm also starting in bird videos (from bird stills), and there are much more challenges in motion and audio capture (and PP work) than still photography. Thanks for sharing!

I just tried some video today with my 7D. I agree that it is a totally different ball game. Sure hard to hold steady looking at the rear screen. I also practiced manual focusing while changing scene areas. Works with practice, but hard to do.
