This is one time when taking a picture at noon helped. I had a light angle that made the colors pop and show the eye patch as well as the eye.

Nikon D100, 80-400VR @ 400mm, 1/1250 - F5.6

Now that is a lot of blue!!! Way to make use of the harsh light to bring out the irridesence.

Jeff, lovely bird and nicely iridescent, but the light is a bit harsh for the dynamic range needed here, this light makes the bird a tad contrasty, you do get the bright blues but at the expense of a more balanced exposure, a Slightly overcast day and a kiss of fill-flash would make this bird singe the Happy Blues!!, Congrats!! 8)

This was in Moremi Game Reserve, Botswana. From my last safari in December. Absolutely one of my favorite places.

Interesting, colorful bird, but perhaps a lower angle of light (not so easy in the tropics!) would have helped. On my monitor, the underside of the bird is black with no detail.
