Seen near Telluride, Colorado: Three Hoary Marmots
Image
Canon EOS-10D, ISO 100, 100-400 zoom @ 400mm, f/5.6, 1/80 sec.

This image was quite a bit underexposed owing to my having accidentally dialed-in -1-1/3 EV of exposure compensation, but it rescued pretty well.

They make a very cute threesome. The rock and the pretty purple flowers to the lower left are lovely. Nice job Noel.

Another fine image from you here. I really like the sense of depth here created by the oof background. Great motif shot. Excellent colors and saturation..I also want to thank you for not only consistently posting your pictures but also taking the time to comment on those of others. It is greatly appreciated...

Nice shot! I particularly like that you managed to get a catchlight in the eye of all three Marmots

Love the fact that there are 3 of them and that it is possible to save an underexposed image! But, this could be my monitor, I have the impression of extra green in the marmot fur, the catchlights appear unnatural, and the left side and top of the frame and photo appears blurry, so it's a little confusing to the eye. (Hope that is the kind of feedback you were looking for.) :)

Thanks Juli, yes in fact that's exactly the kind of feedback I love. I strive for perfection and you're helping me achieve it.

1. The marmots did have a little green cast. My fault for not running my own action, "10D Green Cast Out", which is a necessity when recovering an underexposed JPEG.

2. The catchlights were just a little bright because of oversharpening. I assure you they're in the original capture.

3. I've reworked the image shadow so the left and top of the image don't appear fuzzy. The fuzziness was some of the drop shadow spilling around to the upper-left.

Thanks again for your feedback!

You did great to get three of these guys on 1 rock. The angle and the nature of the conglomerate rock really adds to the image. Nice shot.

Noel, Nice work, especially getting 3 of these to pose for you in such a nice spot! I appreciate your sharing info on salvaging an under-exposed shot. Have you tried cropping out some of the blurred flowers on the left?
