Two nights ago it started to rain lightly. It hit me that it had been very warm the previous day as well as this day. I went out side and sure enough, I could hear movement on the leaf litter in the woods around the house. Careful inspection proved the noise to be Upland Chorus Frog - Pseudacris feriarum emerging from their winter respite.
This fellow agreed to come inside for a photo shoot. A little moss and water spray and we were all set.
I tamed the reflections from the water using cross-polarization flash but, I didn't maximize the effect. I wanted this little fellow to look moist and not plastic.
He happily went back to the woods no worse for the ordeal.
EOS 1Ds, 180mm macro, 550 and 420 EX with polarizing film, circular polarizer on the lens. ISO 200, 1/200 sec, f/22. Converted with C1SE and in PS cropped slightly to 4x5, levels, color adjust (it was a little blue from the filters) and USM, and I cloned out the second flash hight light from the eye.
Comments welcome,

Edit: Oops, I just noticed that this is not a spring peeper. This is the first photo that I have gotten of this species. Cool 8)

This is very nice. I've considered trying cross-pol flash but never got round to it. It has worked very well here and I think I might have to look seriously at trying it again. Thanks for posting this. We have winter to look forward to down here...

Excellent Wil. This does not look like a studio shot which speaks highly or all you have done here. They should be out here soon with any luck.

Well planned and executed, Will.....the flash worked, and does make the peeper look natural. I also like the environmental background. Congrats!

A fine shot! This looks very natural. If you are looking for real nits the only one I could find is the bright reddish thing in the LRC. It does attract attention so darkening it a bit is about the only improvement that might be made.

Wonderful shot Wil! Perfect composition and excellent detail and colour tones in this little frog and BG.

No nits at all! 8) 8) :)

Thanks for explaining your setup Wil.
This is so well balanced throughout, and simply perfect in my opinion!
