This female cheetah was perched on a vehicle right next to ours in the Masai Mara, providing opportunties for some head shots. Shortly after this frame, she took off on a hunt and caught a baby gazelle to teach her cubs how to hunt with. Canon 1Ds at ISO100, 500f4 w1.4x, 1/200 at f8, full frame.

Awesome experience and photograph. Intense stare and upward angle presents a picture of power. If you are into the photoshop thing, It would be pretty easy to copy some of the sky and duplicate it to give a little more room in front, someplace to look into. Envious of your experiences...

Wow! With the 1Ds, I can only imagine the detail you must have in the original file! (I'm heading back to TZ and Kenya in May/June and hope I have half the success here!) I would be tempted to light the eye just a tiny bit.

Great profile and excellent capture. The only big cat I have yet to shoot in Africa.

If she had three cubs, then this could be Kike (called Princess by the locals), the star of this years Big Cat Diary.
