Now, both Canon and Nikon are producing great digital cameras, but correct me if I'm wrong, isn't there a huge gap in the 1500-2500 USD range. Maybe something to replace the D100 that is actually equivalent in construction to the F100 and something like the so often mentioned digital EOS3?

Alex, there is always something "next" on the horizon.

Until then there are a few of options. If you want speed buy a used 1D for around $2,200 (or less), if you want a few more pixels buy a 10D (for $1,400).

I think the 10D is still a pretty strong contender and an outstanding camera in the middle ground between the 300D and the 1D MkII.

The 10 D and D60's are available used near $1000, as is the new Canon body.
