These two guys were hanging around near the Eielson Visitor's Center in Denali NP, both at the end of August and in mid Sept. Finding them required some climbing and hiking. Only 1 other person joined us in the hours I spent with them on 3 different days. This is from the trip in Aug.

Cool animals Tim. I hope to be able to photograph these guys some day. They seem pretty relaxed, are they nervous about people? Good work..

Hi Tim. I agree that this looks like a really nice environmental shot of these guys. I also like this with the small strip of sky cropped out. The look on the one on the right is quite funny. :)

Thanks for the comments. I was surprised there were so many already, but then this gallery has been really hopping lately. :D

Dennis- These were the easiest sheep I've ever photographed. They were very acustom to people and frequently grazed toward me, closing to within 35-40 feet on several occassions, and one approached to within 20' once. Other rams farther from the road were less tolerant of me, but still easier to work than animals that have been hunted. They're certainly my favorite animal to pursue since I love their habitat.

Laura- Yep, the sliver of sky needs to go. I should have cropped to a pano for this weeks motif.

Ken- I've seen both spellings, but "Dahl" is correct since they were named for that famous naturalist. Thanks for pointing out the error.

Very nicely done Tim. I'd just crop out the little white piece of sky.

Hey Tim,

Nice shot .. and I know why only 1 other person climbed up there with you .. that's a tough haul.

Some of these guys are so approachable, and others are some of the hardest to get near animals I've run across. Denali is generally one of the easier spots to get close, for sure.

The spelling is D-a-l-l ..No 'h'.

Cheers

Carl

Nicely done to place them well in their environment. Only additional thought: perhaps just a small boost in USM would make them jump out a bit more.

Very nice environmental. Well worth the climb. I think a little more USM ad a bit of a boost in contrast would make it stand out even more.

Nice shot Tim, I wish our mountain sheep had such horns as these! but ours are very ordinary in comparison.

Tim, definitely worth the climb! The one on the right makes me laugh - like he's trying to make sense of a the smell of a sweaty hiker. Both of these have impressive horns.
