Theses red blossoms are not the tree, but rather a saprophytic vine that growns on some of the trees in New Zealand. Like the strangler fig in the tropics, it starts in the tree and then sends roots down to the ground. Unlike the strangler fig, it seldom kills its host tree.

Hey Skip, ........... why didn't you climb up in the tree and get some good closeups of this? :mrgreen:

Very cool looking shot and great info on this plant.
Hopefully one day I can get over there to NZ and a host of other places I would like to visit.
Interesting subject you have here, and a very nice shot of it as well.

Very nice plant :roll: Killing the host is a no no !!!!! but you did say seldom :shock:

Beautiful composition with the water at the bottom and the diagonal coloration :) :)

.... would be very nice to see a close up :mrgreen: Looks like a short swim and much of a climb :mrgreen: 8) 8)
