White Dogtooth Violet Erythonium albidum
Spring Creek Preserve, Garland, Texas

D2H, 200f4, light diffuser tent (actually taken at about midday).

I wanted to keep the image as simple as possible while maximising the flower as much possible and including the distinctive mottled leaves, graceful stem and some fallen leaves characteristic of the environment this flower normally thrives in. I was forced to take the shot at midday in rather unfriendly light and used a diffuser tent to soften it as much as possible.

It's kind of interesting to me that I seem to have burnt out some of the highlights. I converted th eimage in Capture 4.2 and was careful not to clip, once I transferred it to CS there was some clipping immediately evident. I'll go back and fix it for my final version but I was wondering if anyone else had seen anything similar as they transferred from Capture to Photoshop ?

Lots of good petal detail on this lovely flower. I remember Erythronium as the genus of the Trout Lily- as it turns out dogtooth violet is the common name, but this is the white form of the Trout Lily.

On Canon DSLRs is see problems with the red channel clipping sometimes in bright light shots. It also varies from RAW converter to RAW converter - the curve used in the conversion as well as the white balance can affect whether the reds blow out or not.

The red channel was the strongest so was probably the culprit.
